(W) Volleyball Coach – Ms Carolyn Welden

It is with a bittersweet feeling that I announce that Ms Carolyn Welden has stepped down as Head Coach & Program Coordinator of the RMCC Women’s Volleyball Team.

I am saddened as we are losing a great coach and leader, but I am happy for Carolyn as she pursues new opportunities and adventures elsewhere.

Carolyn arrived at RMC in 2003 and led the RMCC Women’s Team to the OUA “Final Four” in the 2011/12 season.

We wish Carolyn the best of luck and thank her for everything she has done for the program and the college.

Go RMC!

On 17 July 2013, after 33 years of loyal and dedicated service to Canada, 14899 Colonel Stephen (Steve) Saulnier will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Communications & Electronics Branch.

Colonel Saulnier joined the CAF in 1980, attending CMR St Jean and RMC before being commissioned as a Signal officer in 1985. He started his career as a commissioned officer where he will finish it, in Kingston, with stops in Germany, the UK, Ottawa, Petawawa, Kansas, Edmonton, Kingston (again), Ottawa (again), Norway, and Ottawa (yet again) in between. Along the way, he was somehow smart enough to marry Julie, who gamely followed wherever the Army sent them, and who raised their two sons Eric and Louis, largely without interference from Steve, into fine young men.

Colonel Saulnier was privileged to command several units and formations, notably 2 CMBG HQ & Sig Sqn, 73/74 Communication Group and the CF Joint Signal Regiment, and is fond of saying he owes any career success he’s enjoyed to good subordinates and administrative error. Of the many staff positions he’s filled over the years, Colonel Saulnier looks back with the most pride on the three years he spent as Director Signals and the Army G6, because it coincided with a period of unprecedented operational and organizational activity during which the Army’s signallers proved indispensible to operations and ready to take on the future. He is immensely proud of the men and women of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals.

Steve and Julie have settled in Kingston, and plan to renovate and landscape their home, learn to play golf (together), learn to play the piano and violin (respectively), travel and generally enjoy life at a slower pace.

An all-ranks, mixed dining, retirement function will be held in his honour at the CFB Kingston Vimy Officer’s Mess, 1 Princess Royal Avenue, Kingston, Ontario. The event will commence at 1730 hrs on 27 June 2013; those wishing to attend are requested to contact Major Allan Ferriss (allan.ferriss@rmc.ca or 613-242-4741) or Carole Grenning (carole.grenning@rmc.ca or 613-541-6163) no later than 15 June 13. The cost is 30 dollars per person payable to Major Ferriss or Carole either before or at the event (cash only). The dress for the event will be IAW the mess informal dress code.

Please forward congratulatory messages, photos, wishes and anecdotes via email to the above mentioned points of contact no later than 20 June 2013.

Retirements

Posted by rmcclub on 6th August 2012

15020  Major Neville Rabadi will retire after 31 years of loyal and dedicated services to both the EME branch and the Canadian Forces. His official retirement date is 31 Dec 2012 but his last day at work was 3 Aug 2012.

Major Rabadi is Persian by descent, however, was born in the city of Nagpur India. He immigrated to Canada with his parents as a toddler and has since called Guelph Ontario his home town. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1981 and earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Engineering and Management) from the Royal Military College of Canada.

As a junior Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) Officer, Major Rabadi held several appointments at EME Workshops in Trenton, Kingston, and Gagetown. He also held several posts within training organizations starting with EME officer training at Regimental Company within the Canadian Forces School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Major Rabadi gained some experience working with the Reserve Force when he was appointed as the Adjutant/Operations Officer for 15 Service Battalion (Edmonton). He also was employed within 1 Canadian Division Headquarters during Ex RENDEZ VOUS ’92. He later moved to Chilliwack, British Columbia where he advanced to become the School Adjutant for the Canadian Forces Officer Candidate School. While in Chilliwack, Major Rabadi was also attached as the Maintenance Officer for 1 Combat Engineer Regiment. Furthermore, he was privileged to command a squadron at the Royal Military College of Canada for several years.

A career highlight was his year long tour of duty within the Logistics Battalion, United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, in the Golan Heights. Major Rabadi was promoted to his current rank in 2003 while serving with the Joint Support Group Headquarters in Kingston. During that time he led several deployments to Kathmandu Nepal (in the midst of a Maoist uprising) in order to deliver pre-deployment training to contractor employees prior to their departure to work in Afghanistan. Major Rabadi commanded the Sea Port of Embarkation in Croatia as part of the last rotation of Op PALLADIUM (Bosnia-Herzegovina), where his team prepared and loaded two Roll-On-Roll-Off ships with helicopters, vehicles and sea containers.

Major Rabadi gained experience related to domestic operations and the northern region. Early in his career he participated in a Staff Inspection to Canadian Forces Station Alert gaining a good appreciation of its isolation at the top of Ellesmere Island. Later, as an exercise planner, he worked with Canada Command and participated in a reconnaissance of the Mackenzie River watershed all the way up to the Beaufort Sea and Banks Island. He also was attached to Joint Task Force Pacific as a planner and liaison officer for several months in 2007 during a period of high flood waters in the Fraser Valley.

In 2007, a twist of fate diverted Major Rabadi to become the Army Training Authority Business Planner where, for two intense years, he worked on both Level 1 and Level 2 business plans related to Army training. He then held the post of Chief Support for the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College in the historic Fort Frontenac in Kingston. Major Rabadi currently works in the National Capitol Region as the Integrated Logistics Coordinator within the project office to acquire the Close Combat Vehicle with a complementary In-Service Support Contract.

Along the way, Major Rabadi did make time for a family with his lovely wife Vera of 26 years. His son Yazdan is currently studying at Queen’s University, his eldest daughter Yasna is at St. Lawrence College and his youngest daughter Delnaz is almost finished high school.

He is very grateful for the love and support of his parents Roshan and Pervaze, and his in-laws Siloo and Boman. They supported his career even though many postings separated them from their grandkids.

Major Rabadi will shortly start a new career with the Canadian Commercial Corporation as a Senior Project Manager. He is excited by this new opportunity, but will miss the companionship of his colleagues.

A retirement luncheon and presentation took place on July 26, 2012 in Ottawa

CoC at CDA & Major-General Daniel Gosselin Retires…

Posted by rmcclub on 26th June 2011

There was a Change of Command ceremony at CFB Kinston last Thursday 23 June.

Major General Pierre Fourges assumed control of the Canadian Defence Academy (CDA) from Major General Daniel Gosselin.

The Academy is relatively new to the Canadian Forces and came into being in the 1990s.

MAJ. GEN. DANIEL GOSSELIN

“I THINK ONE OF THE CENTRAL ELEMENTS OF THE ACADEMY IS YOU HAVE A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT ARE THINKING ABOUT EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONALIZATION WHILE BEFORE SOME OF THOSE ASPECTS HAD BEEN MARGINALIZED.”

MAJ. GEN. PIERRE FORGUES

“MANY NATIONS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD THAT LIKE TO COME AND SEE WHAT WE DO AND WOULD LIKE TO LEARN FROM IT. SO THAT’S A GREAT TESTAMENT I THINK TO THE WORK GENERAL GOSSELIN HAS DONE SO I SEE MY PRIMARY JOB IS TO KEEP THAT MOMENTUM GOING.”

Major General Forgues is now the IV Commander of CDA.

Fitting Tribute to a Fine Officer and a Fine Athlete

MGen Daniel Gosselin was honoured with a Departure with Dignity Ceremony last Wednesday  (22 June) at the RMCC Cadet Mess in Yeo Hall.

Family including -  his Dad, wife and three children; many senior CF serving officers including the CDS General Walter Natynczyk, former RMCC commandant just recently promoted to LGen, Tom Lawson, and numerous other colleagues from near and far were treated to a first class event and enjoyable afternoon.

The Master of Ceremonies was M50 Colonel Tony Battista.

The DDC program included an impressive a number of presentations; Slide Show; numerous colourful speeches; reading of messages from all over the Globe high-lighting the career of this highly respected professional Military Engineer.

In the first dozen years or so of his military career, Daniel was  likely better known as the top Broomball player in the Canadian Forces. His teams both as a player and a coach – won numerous national championships in that sport. He was one of those rare broomball players that even the most casual fan would make special arrangements just to see him play.

To this day he is a very fit looking individual who was often seen working out in the gym.

From Sqn Comd to Student

By: 22562 Megan Cromarty

After completing my posting as a Squadron Commander at RMC in 2009, I transferred from the Regular force to Reserves and returned to RMC as a student. Now a Class A Reservist at HMCS CATARAQUI, I work with safety and environmental issues within the unit. In addition to my position in the Reserves, I work at a local cycling shop in Gananoque, ON. My decision to change my career path was driven by my desire to become a Pharmacist and I returned to university in order to obtain the required pre-requisite courses to apply to a Pharmacy program. I’m currently enrolled in the Science program and working on my applications for various Universities offering the program.

Not long before the transition from Regular Force to the Reserves, I became aware of the opportunities in training for triathlons that are available to military personnel. I quickly became invested into training for triathlon with the goal to become a member of the CISM triathlon team. During my first year back at RMC, I joined the Varsity running team, the Sharks swim team and cycled with a local group. As a result of consistent training and perseverance, I was able to make the triathlon CISM team this year and will be competing for a position on the Canadian race team for the 2011 World Military games in Brazil.

I don’t regret leaving my previous job in the Regular force because as a Reservist, I am still able to contribute. It is also my intent to return to the Regular Force as a Pharmacy Officer if accepted into a program and continue serving until retirement.  megan.cromarty@rmc.ca
