Communiqué from the Commandant –

Following is a portion from a communiqué from the Commandant – BGen Sean Friday which was sent out to staff and students this past Thursday – 28 April.

It is with immeasurable sadness that I must inform you of the sudden passing of one of our own here at RMCC. OCdt Harrison Kelertas, a fourth year student and 4 Squadron member, passed away unexpectedly this morning. Harrison’s family has been notified and all of us join with them in this time of grief.

At the time of this posting – no other details are available. It is expected that a celebration of Harrison’s life will occur at the college. When available we will post the details.

• The funeral home is Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, 27 Avenue Salisbury, Pointe-Claire, QC.

• Public visitations will be held on Friday 6 May from 1400-1600hrs and 1900-2100hrs, and Saturday 7 May from 1400-1600hrs and 1900-2100hrs.

• The funeral will take place on Monday 9 May at 1300hrs at Paroisse Saint-Joachim, 2 Ste-Anne St, Pointe-Claire, QC.

DÉCÈS DU CAPITAINE DE FRÉGATE MARCEL H. BÉLANGER, MARINE ROYALE DU CANADA

La semaine dernière, le CaptF Marcel Bélanger est décédé à 91 ans. Le CaptF Bélanger était présent à l’ouverture du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean le 13 novembre 1952 présidée par Son Excellence le Gouverneur-général Vincent Massey. Il servit au CMR comme Adjoint au premier Commandant, le Col Marcellin LaHaie et puis comme professeur. Après sa carrière de 30 ans dans la Marine incluant durant la seconde guerre mondiale et l’opération Overlord, le CaptF Bélanger et son épouse Thérèse sont restés actifs, en particulier au sein de l’Association navale du Canada. Ses funérailles ont eu lieu à Montréal, et le Commandant et le Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean ont été représentés par deux élèves, Aspm Cameron Moors et Aspm Josianne Garriock.

DEATH OF COMMANDER MARCEL H. BÉLANGER, ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY

Last week, Cdr Marcel Bélanger died at 91 years old. Cdr Bélanger was on staff during the official opening of Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean on 13 November 1952 presided over by His Excellency Governor-General Vincent Massey. He served two years as Executive Assistant to the first Commandant, Col Marcellin LaHaie, then as a professor. After a 30 year career in the Navy including during the Second World War and Operation Overlord, Cdr Bélanger and his wife Thérèse remained active, in particular in the Naval Association of Canada. His funeral was held in Montréal, and the Commandant and Royal Military College Saint-Jean were represented by two students, NCdt Cameron Moors and NCdt Josianne Garriock.

Allan MacArthur of Calgary passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Allan is lovingly remembered by his family, wife, Shirley of 53 years; son, Shawn (Teresa); daughter, Jennifer; 5 grandchildren, Cameron, Christopher, Jackson, Catherine and Samuel; as well as brother, Lloyd; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 6351 Ranchview Drive NW, Calgary, AB on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allan’s memory to the St. James Anglican Memorial Fund, 6351 Ranchview Drive NW, Calgary, AB, T3G 1B5 or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children (Canada), 1003 Decarie Blvd, Montreal, Quebec, H4A 0A9.
