  1. AFTER 39 YEARS AND FIVE MONTHS IT IS TIME FOR CDR DARREN RICH TO TRIP THE MAIN STOPS, BLEED THE PRESSURE OFF THE MAIN STEAM RANGE, ENGAGE TURNING GEAR AND TURN OVER TO THE COOL-DOWN WATCH
  1. DARREN ENROLLED IN THE CF ON 1 JUNE 1978 WANTING TO BE A PILOT.  IT WAS LOGICAL AS HIS FAMILY WAS LIGHT BLUE BACK TO HIS GRANDFATHER WHO WAS A FLT ENG IN LANCASTERS WITH 428 SQN IN 1945.  ALAS HE WAS OFFERED AN ROTP SLOT AS EITHER ARTY, CBT ENG OR SEA OPS 98B.  NOT BEING AN AVID OUTDOORSMAN HE CHOSE ROYAL ROADS AND THE NAVY, SPENDING HIS MILCOL SUMMERS IN CFOCS, CMR, PENHOLD, YUKON AND SASKATCHEWAN
  1. AFTER GRADUATING FROM RRMC HE WAS POSTED TO VENTURE, MACKENZIE, ROYAL NAVAL ENG COLLEGE MANADON, CFFS(H), MARGAREE, DGMEM, RESTIGOUCHE, CFFS(E) – TWICE, NEU(P), CFC (CSC25 THEN STAFF), FMF CAPE BRETON AND RMCC (SA CMDT, DDCDTS, COS)
  1. IN 2011 HE OPTED FOR THE COLORADO, ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH AND BECAME THE INAUGURAL CANADA COM/CJOC LNO TO NORAD-USNORTHCOM IN CSPRINGS.  AFTER THREE YEARS OF SHUTTLE DIPLOMACY, MOSTLY THROUGH O’HARE AIRPORT, AND MANY TRI-COMMAND / TRI-BORDER WORKSHOPS HE ASSUMED HIS PRESENT DUTIES AS CO AT CFMETR.  KNOWING THAT THERE IS NO BETTER JOB THAN COMMAND HE WILL RETIRE ON 6 NOV 17
  1. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE BEING ONE OF, IF NOT THE LAST, MARE TO OBTAIN A CERT 3A, MSEO FOR RESTIGOUCHE’S 1992 OP BARRIER WORLD CIRCUMNAVIGATION, HIS WORK IN NEU(P) TO PAVE THE WAY ASHORE FOR THE ARRIVAL OF POST-TRUMP ALG AND GET THE FIRST WEST COAST CPF SETTLED.   HE THEN WORKED OUT OF TRADE FIRST AT CFC AS A NATIONAL SECURITY STUDIES PLANNER THEN AT RMCC AND HOPEFULLY HELPED SHOW MANY FUTURE OFFICERS WHAT RIGHT LOOKED LIKE
  1. FROM 2001-05 HE TOOK PART IN MANY DIR PAY POL DEVELOPMENT TAVS TO BOSNIA AND AFGHANISTAN.  HE LIVED IN THE FIELD WITH THE R22R (GAGETOWN IN NOV), RCR (PET IN FEB) AND PPCLI (SUFFIELD IN APR).  HE SAW THE WORLD FROM THE JUMP SEAT OF A CC-130 AND A CC-177.  HE LOGGED FLIGHT TIME IN THE REAR SEAT OF A CF-188 AND THE RIGHT SEAT OF A SNOWBIRDS AND AETE CT-114, CC-115, CH-124, CP-140 AND A CC-150
