6560 Andrew Nellestyn: EX-CADETS LEAD AND ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN ALLEVIATING HOMELESSNESS

Above: 7195 Cmdre (Ret’d) Robert Hamilton accompanied by 12708 MGen (Ret’d) Ian Poulter presents OStG $15K cheque to support homeless veterans to VAdm (Ret’d) Larry Murray, RCL Grand President and National Foundation Board member. Absent 6560 Col (Ret’d) Andrew Nellestyn.

HOMELESSNESS IS ENDEMIC! A blight on society’s inability to come to grips with this dehumanizing and debilitating crisis: greatly amplified by COVID-19! THE TYEE’s focus on this shamefully persistent issue is both applauded and timely (see link below).

The HOMES FOR HEROES (H4H) program for Canada’s homeless veterans, championed by 9660 CAMERON DIGGON, so successful in Alberta and now expanding across Canada, is compelling and persuasive testimony that the provision of shelter, TINY HOMES, is key to developing an effective, practical, economic and caring solution to this crisis. H4H is applauded for the empathy, compassion, generosity, dignity and respect extended to those veterans homeless and gravely in need.

The ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION (RCL) National Foundation LEAVING THE STREETS BEHIND project, with which THE ORDER OF ST GEORGE (OStG) CANADA AND THE AMERICAS recently partnered and donated $15,000, also effectively addresses homelessness and complements the H4H program.

The omnipresent and nationally acclaimed SAINT JOHN AMBULANCE provides a host of programs which address well-being and mental health including that of our veterans.

Many ex-cadets hold significant leadership roles and actively participate in diminishing and eradicating homelessness.

IT IS MOST GRATIFYING THAT CANADIANS ARE EMBRACING AND JOINING HANDS TO ALLEVIATE THE PLIGHT OF OUR HOMELESS BROTHERS AND SISTERS!
