Scuba Divers Up Their Certification & Have Fun Doing It

During the  weekend, September 8th and 9th, RMC’s SCUBA club held an Advanced Open Water certification course. The instructors, Dan and Chris Haslip of Explorer Diving were the instructors for the two day course and planned several dives for the 10 students. Saturday started with a 9:30 dive in Dead Man’s bay to do the underwater navigation portion of the course. Rain, high winds, poor visibility, whitecaps and huge swells couldn’t stop the dive from being successful as all the students were able to navigate in the harsh conditions and have some fun.

The second dive of the day was at Brewers Mill, and later that evening was the night dive in Portsmouth Harbour which was a new experience for many of the students.

The next day the two deepest dives of the course were to be made. The first dive, The Munson, is an old dredge that went down without warning and sits at a depth of about 110 ft. The second and final dive of the course was the Verona which sat at around 75 ft below the surface. The weekend and course were a success as all the students received their certifications, came back safe and had a whole lot of fun!

To top it all off, Dan threw an awesome end of course BBQ at his home and dive shop to relax after a long weekend of diving.
