Dr. B Asks, “What are you reading?” – The current CWC replies

“It’s like I’ve got every radio station on at the same time”

This week, OCdt (IV) Colin de Grandpré got asked a question he couldn’t answer: what are you reading? “I am the kind of person that starts a bazillion books and doesn’t finish one – it’s like I’ve got every radio station on at the same time.”

The challenge was to talk about a book he wasn’t reading for school. He named one of his favourites: The Gun by CJ Chivers, a socio-cultural history of the AK-47. “It’s a well-written story about the gun’s development and impact on the world,” OCdt de Grandpré says. “It was a gift for my 15th birthday and I still remember it well.”

He looks forward, too, to the day he has time to pick up and finish Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond, but he’s not sure when that will be. “My reading habits are a reflection of how my brain works. I get told I’m too dry sometimes, too much of a realist.”

Perhaps he should try some fiction to lighten the pressure? “Yeah, probably.”
