Veterans Supported Daily by a New Kind of First Aider!

Sherry Lachine

This is not the first aid we are used to, it’s Mental Health First Aid.  A program designed to assist those who care for and about veterans to help when someone is experiencing a mental health problem, crisis or disorder.  Veterans Affairs Canada is coming to the end of a two year program to train 3000 people across the country.  It helps and it’s free.   More courses being offered as funding is received.  If you have ever wondered how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a mental health problem and assist someone in getting the right supports, this is for you.  Statistically 1 in 5 people will experience a mental health problem within a year.  Mental Health First Aid not only supports the 1 in 5, it is for those who help others, those who see someone is struggling and those who want to help themselves.  In others words, this is for the 5 in 5 – all of us.  If you are interested in setting one up, it is easy, contact an instructor and they will get you started. One such instructor is 18607 Sherry Lachine, a veteran and supporter of veterans, first responders and their families.  She travels across the country delivering the Mental Health First Aid program.  Reach out sherry@broadmind.ca or visit www.broadmind.ca
