Ex-Cadets and More in the News & Old Brigade Seeks New Adjutant

I’m a former cadet and graduated RMC 1991 (17478 Cheryl Godefroy (nee Lawrence)). I’m married to E1455 Mark Godefroy (graduated RMC 2000). We currently reside in Canmore, AB after retiring from the CF in 2014.

In July 2015, our 11 year old son was diagnosed with High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He immediately commenced chemotherapy treatment at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. On December 3, 2018, Jack took his last dose of oral chemotherapy and became a cancer survivor. He underwent 1,222 days of treatment which included 122 injections of chemotherapy into his port and spine, over 4,000 oral chemotherapy pills and 12 blood and platelet transfusions. He spent numerous days in the hospital – both inpatient and day clinic. He received 12 different kinds of chemotherapy. His treatment lasted through all of grade 6, 7, 8 and half of grade 9. But he did it – he is now a cancer survivor and we are so very thankful.

In honour of his battle, I have decided to shave my head to raise money for an organization that was extremely helpful to us during his battle. Kids Cancer Care operates out of Calgary and is an amazing organization that provides all types of support to young cancer warriors and their families. They also support childhood cancer research specifically – something that I didn’t really realize before we started this journey was how different childhood cancer is from adult cancers and how little of the overall funding dollars are actually allocated to childhood cancer research. This is one of the reasons that I want to raise money – no child should ever have to battle this terrible disease. I will be shaving my head on March 2, 2019 at the Royal Canadian Legion Three Sisters Branch #3 in Canmore.
