6584 Keith Ambachtsheer: FINANCIAL TIMES: PENSION SOLUTION LIES IN LONG-TERM THINKING

The Financial Times asked Keith Ambachtsheer to write an article on the challenge of investing retirement savings in a low-return world. He argues it requires answering John Maynard Keynes’ call to convert savings into capital capable of generating sustainable, long-term cash-flows in the forms of interest, dividends, rents, or tolls. Sadly, there is still only a small number of pension organizations that have the requisite scale, culture, and talent to do this successfully.

14797 Richard Martin – Monday Stand To!  Expert in Readiness and Exploiting Change

STAND TO! Time for a change…

“Stand to!” is the order given to put troops in a high state of readiness. It comes from the trenches of the First World War, when forces on both sides would stand ready for action at the parapets just before dawn and just after dusk in case of surprise enemy attack. The practice continues to this day, although adapted to the realities of modern warfare and conflict. The order to “stand to!” encapsulates the whole theory and practice of military readiness, which is about awareness, anticipation, and preparation before, during, and after operations, in war and in peace.
