This date really put me behind in my entries so I’ll skim over the past 5 odd weeks. The exams finally did get finished and Fran arrived for the Christmas dance. We walked up to Fort Henry, the old RCE stone church on the hill and back – consequently yawned our way through most of the dance. Next day we went home by bus – 17 fellows got together and chartered a bus for themselves and their girls. Mother & Dad met us in Toronto. The holidays were pretty quiet. I went skating with Kate who got new skates for Christmas, stayed at William’s for a few days and went skating with Fran on the Harker marsh which froze over to make a very good sheet of ice. We had a wonderful time together – painted surrealist pictures, saw one good movie, slept in, played bridge, went grandma-sitting!

On returning to the College I found that I did very poorly in my exams, failing 4 out of 7 subjects. Donny got a failing average also. Since then we have been studying together in the science library and it has worked out quite well. Last night I gave him a good workout and sparred a bit.

Know the feeling all to well! In first year at Royal Roads in 1960 I was #105 of 107 students at Christmas break. The two below me did not return; I was granted a second chance because I had been injured playing rugby and lost quite a bit of class time in first term.

Yup, this wuz me in 2nd year Apple Sci. Too much rep hockey and not enough skool. I am forever grateful to LCdr Howie and Maj. Bake who saw some reason to allow me stay. In retrospect, one of the major turning points in my life.
