    “Advantages of the Beret:

    10. Looks smart (believe it or not!)”

I’m gonna go with “not” here. Ugliest hat I’ve ever had the displeasure of having to wear.

Prior to RMC, I was a senior prefect at a school in England. This required me to wear an English schoolboy’s cap with a scarlet tassel attached to the button on top. I can assure you, switching to a pillbox was a great improvement in headgear.

The pillbox is actually a rather dashing piece of headgear, if worn correctly. It should be worn on the right side of the head, touching the right ear, and 1 inch above the right eye. It should not be worn on the top of the head. Too many in the Cadet Wing have pillboxes that are too big. I and my contemporaries attempted to find the smallest pillboxes, because they looked the best.

I must add that the Cadet Wing in pith helmets is a magnificent sight.

I only wore the pill box.
Irrelevant note: The regular battle blouse had was my favorite.
Only problem with it was that if wet it would shrink.
