The Senior Staff Mess was filled with well-wishers on June 30th, in honour of the departure of Interim Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Laura Robinson.

After more than 11 years dedicated service to the Royal Military College of Canada (RMCC), Laura has accepted the position, Dean, School of Arts and Social Science at Memorial University (Grenfell Campus).

Both the commandant, BGen Sean Friday and the principal Dr Harry Kowal were both out-of-town with previous commitments. Consequently, were unable to attend but had sent their fondness best wishes.

This left the Master of Ceremony duty to, Dr. Phil Bates. The always quick thinking on his feet, Vice-Principal Academic mixed a series of witty and clever remarks that set a casual and fun tone for what could have been a somber event.

Part of the crowd was Dr. Jim Denford (photo left). The Principal previously was pleased to announced Jim as the replacemen, Interim Dean of Arts. The appointment commenced 01 July and will be effective until to 30 June 2017.

Dr. Robinson admitted she was pleasantly surprised by the turnout. Mostly it was just before the Canada Day long weekend.

“There are so many outstanding people that I’ve spent time with and worked with here; it is so amazing to see them,” she said. “I grew up in an air force family. In my heart, I will always consider myself a member of the military family.”
