That second one is RRMC 1982. John Lindsay and Tom Middleveen definitely starting class of 1982.

I was amused when I read the headline of the article “welcome to Royal Roads………. “. As I recall the first words I heard from the cadet flight leader (CFL) who stepped on the bus and asked us if we were waiting to get an invitation to get off the bus, were something less than congenial. That was 62 years ago and I do not think I have ever seen the bus empty as quickly as that one did, even during emergency evacuation drills. I also remember the two young men never exited the bus, and in fact returned to Victoria and flew home without ever having set foot on Royal Roads real estate.

The one stating RRMC ’82 has T67C Fireflies in the background. So the picture has to have been on or after 1992.

Readers should be forgiven if they conclude the 1982 recruit term at Royal Roads to have been somewhat relaxed, as a kind of pilot’s lifestyle, viz., short flights followed by long golf games. The current Chief of Defence staff is evidence to the contrary, although the subsequent intake for 1983 was the more rigorous, as the photo demonstrates.

Does the first photo in every Golden Oldies entry NOT have a description of the photo? Most of them are a hell of a lot more interesting than the other photos and lame cartoons.

    Just sayin’………….
