Legacy Dinner Kicks off Reunion Weekend 2018

“For one night, we’re all just part of the military college family”

Article by 25366 Anna-Michelle Shewfelt

During my time as a Cadet at the College, I never had the opportunity to attend the RMC Foundation’s Legacy Dinner. I knew more or less what it was about, but my only exposure to it was really just passing very well-dressed people going up to it as I went down to the Cadet Dining Hall for dinner. I didn’t understand what the draw was, what made people return for it year after year.

I was afforded the opportunity to attend this year’s Legacy Dinner (big thanks to the Ottawa branch for making that possible!) and looking back on it, I have to say that I understand it now. From the mingling over drinks which kicked it off to the toasts which ended it, it was about connecting. Ex-Cadets connecting with current Cadets. Current Cadets connecting with those who went before. Classmates connecting with those they haven’t seen in years. You meet, you establish common ground (which isn’t hard) and then you swap stories.

All of that connecting in turn connects us back to the military college experience that we all share in one form or another. The ceremony surrounding the event reminds us that, whether we’re young or old, currently serving in the CF or working in the civilian world, whether we attended Roads or RMC or CMR or the Royal Canadian Naval College, we’re all a part of a very special group of people. And for one night, at least, we get to share that. Now that’s something special.

Foundation Thank You – 21st Annual Legacy Dinner

By Nancy Marr – RMC Foundation Executive Vice-President

The 21st Annual Legacy Dinner, held on Thursday 13 September 2018 at the New Gym Yeo Hall was once again a resounding success.

Thank you to our valued Sponsors:

Presenting Sponsor:  Canso Investment Counsel Ltd, 11623 John Carswell Class of 1978

Silver Sponsor:  TD Canada Trust

Bronze Sponsor:  Pratt & Whitney Canada

The Legacy Dinner is a huge undertaking organized by a very small staff of four at the RMC Foundation.  Special thanks to Jennifer Jordan, Dave Ferguson, Katrina Mooz and Lisa Bridgeland for all your hard work which made this prestigious event so outstanding.

Huge thanks to the RMC Varsity Men’s Rugby Team who provided the “muscle” behind the scenes, lifting tables and chairs, and helping to decorate the New Gym.  OPI 27453 Jacob Venne was our right hand man on the night of the event helping us keep all the many pieces moving while our guests enjoyed the entertainment.

Equally important to the success of the evening are the valuable contributions of the RMC Band, the Colour Parties, Highland Dancers, Pipes and Drums, Cadet Mess Staff, Labour Crew and Cleaning Services. Thank you!

Very special thanks to all of our guests who attended the dinner or sponsored a cadet.  Without you, there would be no dinner.

See everyone next year!
