Kingston Branch Looking to Serve Kingston & Area in a More Tangible Way

5877 Ted Davie and Susan Zambonin

This past Wed (5 Apr) during their monthly luncheon members of the Kingston had a special speaker.

Susan Zambonin, Chief Executive Officer for Habitat for Humanity Kingston & Frontenac gave an interesting presentation.

For those of us who were only vaguely aware of what this organization stands for, Susan was able to convey very clearly – who they are and what they do.

In a nutshell: Habitat for Humanity Greater Kingston & Frontenac is one of 56 affiliates of Habitat for Humanity Canada: a national, non-profit, faith-based organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. The mission of the organization is to mobilize volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing, and promote homeownership as a means to break the cycle of poverty.

They partner with families, businesses, organizations, and individuals to build simple, affordable, and energy efficient homes. These homes are sold at no profit, to selected families through long term, no-interest mortgages.

The Kingston Branch is seriously looking at ways to get involved.  At this stage of the process much is still to be done, however, there are a few keen members  who appear to want to make it happen sometime over the next year.

All Pros at Vancouver RCAF Annual Dinner – 1 April

The Air Force Officers’ Association Vancouver Annual Dinner was held on April Fools’ Day but it was no joke – it was a very well conducted and thoroughly enjoyable event at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club.

Despite a short fuse for the invitation, the RMC Branch turned out a big attendance including a Gunner (me) and a Swabbie (Jarvis).

The RMC Club was very well represented.

From L to R: Mark Duncan, an Aerospace and Air Transport consultant, Joshua Kutryk who is Test Pilot, Fighter Test Team Lead at Cold Lake AB, the Guest of Honour Ricardo Traven, Boeing test pilot for the Superhornet and the 787 Dreamliner who spoke off the record about certain current events, Jim Reith, President Abbotsford Air Show, Peter Jarvis, counsel for Woodfibre LNG, Leagh Farrell, retired pilot, Blair Trousdell, retired CEO Translink, Konrad Mech – Director, Sales and Marketing for Kongsberg Mesotech Ltd. (Gunner selling sonar), and Group Captain Bud White, Past President AFOA Vancouver.

Now. All you young’uns. Look at the job descriptions above, and ask yourselves: wouldn’t it be a good idea to show up and network at these things?

Rgds, 13766  Konrad

Wow!! So much interesting activity! Indicative of LIFE!

On the other hand, this part of Alberta with respect to RMC Alumni, has strengthened

    the misnomer of – DEADmonton.

No Branch activity. No AGM. Disappeared or never appeared Branch Executive Committee!!

No news is good news, THEY say, but kicking a dead horse only hurts the kicker!
