MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF ALBERTA

On behalf of the Government of Alberta, it is my pleasure to send greetings to the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation on the unveiling of the stained glass window in honour of Ukrainian Canadian veterans of the Second World War.

This window is a fitting tribute for the brave men and women who volunteered to serve their country during the war, and who remained in Europe to help rescue Ukrainian refugees. Their service helped secure the freedoms we enjoy, and their sacrifices saved lives. Their legacy is a vibrant Ukrainian community in Canada, which has carried on their work to ensure the world never forgets the sons and daughters of Ukraine.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented us from gathering this year to commemorate many important dates, such as the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Thank you to Dr. Lubomyr Luciuk and the members of the foundation for being flexible and finding a way to celebrate the completion of this memorial in these unprecedented circumstances. Thank you as well for your ongoing efforts to raise awareness about Ukrainian and Ukrainian Canadian issues.

Best wishes,

Hon Hon Jason Kenney, Premier of Alberta
