THE CADETS ARE BACK – A CALL TO COLLEGE ALUMNI

RMC FOUNDATION LAUNCHES

2016 TRUTH DUTY VALOUR FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

By: 9098 Ken Hague, Chair of Fundraising

It is the beginning of a new academic/training year at our Royal Military Colleges and the Cadets are back for another year of education, training, learning, challenges and development – and they need your support.

e-Veritas has been advised that this week the RMC Foundation will launch its 2016 “TDV” Fundraising Campaign – an appeal to our alumni for general donations to help provide these future leaders with opportunities to enhance their standards of excellence.

When asked why the Foundation was seeking general, or unrestricted donations, Foundation Chair of Gifting M0472 Barbara Maisonneuve commented that: “While the Foundation has access to a number of Class and personal endowments that fund special programs for the cadets, there are always new, unforeseen opportunities that are created by the College leadership and that are not funded from these dedicated sources.  That is where unrestricted donations play such an essential role – without them many valuable opportunities to Enhance Excellence in the development of tomorrow’s leaders would not occur.”

“Last year we drew upon about $375 thousand of our discretionary funds to assist with over sixty individual projects including Academic Conferences and Competitions, guided visits to significant battlefields, enhancements to RMC’s sports facilities, ventures by the College Expedition Club to climb peaks overseas, support for the College’s team on the Nijmegen March, varsity team travel, and so much more.  Without the flexibility provided by general donations we won’t be able to sustain this level of support.”

So what is this new campaign all about?  Chair of Fundraising and former Commandant 9098 Ken Hague added that: “Over the next several weeks we’ll be bringing you stories and examples of programs that have stretched our Cadets’ knowledge and abilities, challenging them to apply their formal classroom education and leadership training in new environments and competitions.  We’ll let them tell you, in their own words, just how important and valuable these Opportunities have been – and why your support is vital if they are to be not just the best, but the best they can possibly be.”

“We will also be calling on the Commandants of both Colleges to offer their comments and support for this campaign.  As a former RMC Commandant I know that the College leadership is committed to producing the finest possible graduate – and Foundation funding is crucial to achieving that goal.”

“We think our alumni will understand and support this goal and the programs they have crafted to help achieve it.”

So what can we expect to see coming from the Foundation as part of this campaign?  Executive Vice-President Rod McDonald replied that: “With the assistance of the RMC Club we will be reaching out through e-Veritas and the next edition of Veritas magazine to deliver these stories and messages and to ask for your support.  You can also expect to hear from us directly by email.  We won’t be overloading everyone’s email inboxes but we hope you will enjoy learning more about how donors are already making such a difference in Officer Cadet development.”
